Are you good at typing? Yes? No?

Well…

I’m not.

You must be thinking, why am I writing a blog on typing when I’m not even good at it?

Well, that’s an interesting question.

Let me tell you my story. As we all are facing Difficulties because of COVID, so do I. A month ago, I had my online sendups. I was assigned to attempt a paper with a time limit of an hour. There were four short answer questions and one long question to complete on a word document. My typing speed was slow, So I tried my best to write as fast as I can. Alas! I couldn’t make it on time. I was 5 minutes late for the submission of my exam. ‘

At that moment, I made a decision that I’ll learn how to increase my typing speed. I searched for a good website and started taking typing lessons. I was so passionate to learn typing that I spent an hour of a day in practice typing.

Now you must be thinking that I became a pro at typing because of my passion but, that’s not the case. A big mistake that stopped my learning process previously was I did not make a SMART goal at that time. I practiced typing when I got the time. I wasn’t typing daily. I randomly started practicing it without any time limit. That practice tired me off, and I stopped practicing typing.

Nowadays, I again started working on my goals. This time I’m not going to repeat the same mistakes that I did.

So the first thing that I did was write my goals and convert them into SMART goals.

Again, Typing is my first goal. To achieve that goal, I decide to do everything in a pattern. So, I made a SMART goal of it: I will increase my typing speed of 35 words per minute to 50 words per minute, within a month, by taking speed tests and practice typing 10 minutes daily, So that I can finish my assignments/exams on time.

Now I made a SMART goal but to achieve that goal. I had to take some initial steps first that are:

  • Search for a website for typing practice.
  • Choose a website.
  • Create an account on the website.
  • Set your personal goal in it.
  • Get enrolled in a course.

Set your personal goal in it.
Get enrolled in a course.

These were the necessary steps that were required to accomplish my goal. I felt excited by doing them. I believe I’ll be able to achieve my goal because now they look attainable.

While going through this process, I had to decide what is suitable for me and find a way to learn effectively. This time I will follow the rules that I made for myself. My next step would be to practice typing for 10 min daily.

What I learned from my own experience is that you cannot change anything or ace things immediately. To attain something, you had to take baby steps towards them.

Little by Little, A little becomes a lot.
